Assistant Data Analyst

Midlands Connect have a brand-new opportunity for three Assistant Data Analysts to join their innovative Strategy and Insight team, for a period of 12 months. You will play an integral role in enhancing Midlands Connects transformational transport strategy by leveraging your technical skills to build and maintain our visual tools with python, helping us establish ourselves as a centre of excellence for modelling and analytics across the Midlands as an innovator in the industry. 

Working in close collaboration with our partners, you will play a key role in facilitating the delivery of data analysis, and visualisation which will enable others to generate recommendations crucial for supporting the delivery of transport projects. This role offers a diverse array of responsibilities aimed at elevating the region's capabilities. You will contribute to the team's efforts by updating and maintaining existing apps, developing new applications, conducting geo-spatial data analysis, acquiring and storing spatial data and offering objective advice.

What will you be doing?
  • Utilise python to develop, update and maintain bespoke applications. 
  • Conduct geo-spatial analysis to enable evaluations and analyses of different locations. 
  • Support the Data Lead with the identification and application of the right tools and techniques for data analysis.
  • Ensure data is summarised and presented in the most appropriate format for both internal and external use. 
  • Assist in carrying out research, gathering data and performing analysis and calculations to support the development of intelligence and management information. 
  • Assist in monitoring systems, processes and practices.
  • Ensure the technical services provided to the organisation are efficient, effective and support wider business objectives.
  • Be pro-active in your approach to learning new data analytical techniques.
About you. 
  • Ability to utilise scripting languages for automation and tool development.
  • Working knowledge of the development and design of databases to integrate data from various sources.
  • Working knowledge of spatial analysis with Geographical Information Systems 
  • Experience of working in a team environment 
  • Good attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills 
  • Good communication and presentational skills
  • Logical and creative thinking

We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. Hybrid working, location and working pattern.
We believe hybrid working is the best way for our organisation to fulfil our commitment to a modern, agile workplace while continuing to provide a great service to our customers. Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows. 

The location for this role is Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street Queensway, Birmingham, B1 1TT. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 8 days spent in the office a month.
