The West Midlands is entering a new era of ambition and delivery with the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) playing a central role in driving sustainable and inclusive growth as it transitions into the region’s principal economic delivery vehicle.
We are seeking a Chair to provide strategic leadership and strong governance to embed this transformation and to ensure impact is felt across the West Midlands. Working closely with the Mayor, Local Authorities, WMGC Board and executive leadership, the Chair will help guide WMGC through transition, ensuring clarity of purpose, effective oversight, and confidence among partners and stakeholders, as it supports the delivery of the Local Growth Plan.
This is a high‑profile ambassadorial role. The Chair will act as a visible advocate for the West Midlands, supporting the region’s investment, innovation and international positioning, while ensuring that WMGC continues to operate with integrity, accountability and impact.
The successful candidate will bring:
- A strong track record of board‑level leadership, ideally in complex, partnership‑led environments
- Experience of leading organisations through change or transition
- Credibility with senior stakeholders across the public, private and academic sectors
- The judgement, independence and authority to chair an organisation operating at regional and national level
This is a hands‑on, non‑executive role, requiring approximately 2–3 days per month. The role is primarily Birmingham‑based, with some regional and occasional national or international engagement. Reasonable expenses will be covered.
