Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) is dedicated to spearheading projects that enhance the West Midlands region, including conducting market research to analyse both current and future trends. They have a brand-new role for a Concessions and Fares Delivery Lead to be responsible for supporting the management and analysis of commercial and concessionary ticketing schemes in the region. This role offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment, ensuring each day brings new challenges. As a vital member of the team, you'll work closely with the Fares and Payments Senior Manager to drive the development and ongoing enhancement of our ticketing programs.

You'll have a pivotal role in analysing the performance of numerous programmes and providing insightful reports, shaping future decisions that benefit the Midlands positively. Your involvement will extend to several significant regional projects including the Bus Service Improvement Plan.

What will you be doing?

  • Development and publication of concessionary fares schemes ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Analysis, calculation, and negotiation of concessionary fares reimbursement with public transport operators
  • Correct interpretation and adoption of concessionary fares guidance from the Department for Transport and relevant statutory regulations
  • Accurate forecasting of concessionary fares reimbursement to support the departmental budgeting process.
  • Manage operator issues, appeals and legal challenges.
  • Support the Fares & Payments Senior Manager and the Fares and Payments Delivery Lead in all aspects of managing TfWM’s commercial ticketing schemes and pricing.
  • Undertake price changes and support with managing the fares and payments ticketing database.
  • Answer ticketing, fares, payments, and concessionary queries to support internal and external stakeholders.

About you.

  • Demonstrable experience of developing schemes within strict legal frameworks – ideally within the public transport sector
  • Experience and proven track record for successfully negotiating large financial settlements.
  • Experience of using analysis to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of interpretation and successful use of complex legal or commercial frameworks
  • Experience of statistical forecasting to deliver accurate budget predictions.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills
  • Economics or statistics grounding to deliver and validate analysis.
  • Influencing skills

Salary and benefits.

We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.

Location and working pattern – what you can expect. 

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 3 days a month spent in the office.
