Our newly established Metro team have a brand-new role for a Performance Engineer to provide engineering expertise on all West Midlands Metro matters, with a focus on monitoring the engineering performance and maintenance activities of the operator and maintainer Midland Metro Limited (MML). You will be the eyes and ears for the team, understanding the performance of the assets and ensuring that MML are adhering to safety policies and procedures.
You will be engaged in Metro extension and renewal projects, proactively addressing emerging safety risks, and auditing and inspecting maintenance and infrastructure activities. By building strong relationships and gaining a deep understanding of MML operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring all works are completed to the highest standards.
To excel in this role, you must be a team player with a keen eye for detail and have strong communication skills.
What you will be doing.
- Prepare technical briefs, identifying appropriate design standards and eliciting engineering requirements for renewals and enhancement works.
- Obtain asset performance data and analyse this data in order to identify trends and future maintenance interventions.
- Review tenders and proposals from contractors and evaluate technical aspects.
- Escalate any safety critical matters that are identified.
- Conduct surveys and assessments to monitor the condition of the West Midlands Metro asset.
- Undertake site visits across the Metro network to identify any defects and to address any urgent technical matters.
- Undertake reviews/audits of design and/or construction activities.
What’s essential.
- Experience of working with varied data sets and the ability to diagnose and provide insight into asset performance.
- Experience of conducting engineering audits.
- Ability to compile clear and concise technical and non-technical reports for a range of audiences.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team and an equal ability to work effectively on own initiative, without close supervision.
- Demonstrable experience of building relationships with and working effectively with contracted suppliers of services.
- Proficient in Excel.
- A customer focused approach.
- Methodical approach to auditing processes, procedures and practices.
- Educated to HND or equivalent – in an engineering discipline.
- Relevant qualifications for developing and carrying out audits.

Hybrid working and location.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, with regular site visits. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 3 days a week spent in the office. Please note, this is the minimum expectation.
