Policy Officer

We are seeking to appoint two Policy Officers to join the Health and Communities team at West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). This is your chance to be part of a groundbreaking research programme funded by Sport England, working alongside leading universities to reduce inequalities in those who are physically inactive across the West Midlands.  

You will be helping to build on the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games legacy, aiming to leave a lasting positive impact on the health and well-being of the West Midlands population through the power of movement! 

What you will be doing.
  • You'll be a vital member of the WMCA's Health and Communities Team, collaborating with Sport England, Local Authorities, Hartpury, Coventry, and Sheffield Hallam Universities, communities, sport and community organisations. 
  • Work alongside a dedicated team to develop and implement a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Plan (MELP) for the programme. Managing relationships with key partners, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region. 
  • Collecting and analysing data and insight to track progress, measure impact, and inform future policy decisions. 
  • Use your findings to develop policy briefs, and reports with recommendations shaping the future of physical activity policy and practice. 
  • Share your insights with key partners through workshops, reports, and presentations, maximising the programme's reach.
What’s Essential. 
  • Proven experience in planning and conducting research and evaluation projects. 
  • An inquisitive mind that thrives on research, development and asking insightful questions. 
  • The ability to translate complex data and insight into clear, actionable plans. 
  •  Excellent communication skills both written and verbal – to engage and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. 
  •  The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
Please note these are 3-year fixed-term posts.

Salary and benefits. 
We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees. Requests for salaries above the maximum advertised range will not be considered.

Hybrid working and location.

Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows.  
 
The location for this role is Summer Lane, Birmingham It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office. Please note, this is the minimum expectation.
