Project Manager

We’re looking for a Project Manager to lead and support on delivery of projects linked to new and existing funding streams. 

You’ll have oversight on several projects being delivered by a variety of external partners, ensuring they have the right tools, guidance, and support to deliver initiatives on time and to budget. 

We’ll be looking to you to support overall development and implementation of agreed projects with external delivery partners.  Including reviewing project performance, providing updates on progress, coordinating risk registers and flagging issues.  

You will play a proactive role in streamlining and managing our monthly reporting process for diverse projects. Your keen eye for detail and ability to identify inconsistencies will be essential. You'll collaborate with our delivery partners, ensuring they understand and address any emerging issues. 

This is a unique opportunity to get involved with overseeing a variety of projects and support the development of existing and up and coming projects. 

What will you be doing? 

  • Support the development and implementation of agreed projects central to the Employment, Health, Skills and Communities Directorate 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust project processes and systems ensuring that project aims, and objectives are satisfactorily met and evidenced including timelines and critical paths. 
  • Provide update reports on the progress and outcomes of critical projects which are in planning and delivery stages to a variety of audiences. 
  • Creating and coordinating risk registers for projects/programmes to document and monitor agreed mitigations, working closely with WMCA Assurance and Finance 

About you 

You’ll have a background in project and programme support and know how to oversee projects being delivered by external partners and providers.   

This isn’t a traditional project manager role delivering the day to project work, but you’ll be familiar with how projects should be run and be able to monitor and oversee delivery by external partners. 

You’ll be proactive, organised, comfortable working on different projects at the same time and can engage with a variety of people and delivery partners.   

Essential experience: 

  • Supporting and coordinating projects and programmes 
  • Working effectively with a variety of stakeholders to achieve and communicate shared goals. 
  • Developing systems and processes to support project and programme appraisal, implementation, and delivery 

Essential Skills/Knowledge/Abilities 

  • Strong attention to detail including observational, analytical, and organisational skills. 
  • High level numeracy skills inc. budgeting, data analysis, calculations, and trends 
  • Advanced excel skills including formula understanding and ability to create and manage works books and sheets. 
  • Able to effectively communicate with both internal and external customers. 
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications including the ability to write and edit reports and presentations, formatting charts and graphs, managing calendars and scheduling activity. 
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work independently as well as a member of a cross-functional team. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, trouble-shoot, and to meet short- and long-term deadlines.

Salary and benefits. 

We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.

Location and working pattern – what you can expect.  

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
