Senior Project Lead (EV)

Our newly created Innovation team are looking for a Senior Project Lead to plan, manage and monitor transport projects, from inception to completion. This is a varied role where you will be involved in new bid proposals, managing external contractors, research and development and making sure that we deliver projects on time and within budget.

You will be involved in forward thinking projects such as the local travel point projects, which looks at new technologies to encourage shifting travel modes and influencing car users to be more active. Your main day to day focus will be managing Ultra Low Emission Vehicle technology related projects and concentrating on the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Pilot fund, which aims to deliver a step change in lower power electric vehicle infrastructure. Working with internal stakeholders, local authorities and councillors, our aim is to introduce creative and resourceful transport solutions that will change the region’s transport habits in order for us to meet our net zero goals.

We need an experienced Project Lead who has dealt with the full lifecycle of projects and can adapt within a fast paced and dynamic environment. You will be proactive, highly organised and enjoy working collaboratively.

Please note that this is a fixed-term contract running until 30/09/2026.

What you will be doing
  • Manage the successful delivery of allocated capital projects.
  • Forecasting and monitoring project budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Controlling project delivery and monitoring progress.
  • Identify and manage risks on projects, ensuring they are mitigated and continuously monitored.
  • Lead and manage procurement activities such as developing tender specifications.
  • Produce and lead on the internal and external project reporting.
  • Prepare regular project documentation for review by the Directorate Board.
  • Provide support for project delivery in Transport Innovation solutions such as ITS technologies, Connected and Autonomous Mobility, 5G communications, smart ticketing, Mobility as a Service, Ultra Low Emission Vehicle technologies and drone technology.
  • Identify and manage the Health, Safety & Environmental, CDM and information security and privacy aspects on the allocated projects.

  • Proven track record in delivery of projects to time and budget
  • Ability to effectively manage/oversee multiple projects, prioritising works as appropriate.
  • The management of project budgets and production of robust cost forecasts.
  • Ability to manage conflict.
  • Experience of working on grant funded projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining project performance.
  • Exhibit a high degree of pro-activity and creative thinking when faced with challenges requiring resolution.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Qualification in a Project Management Methodology (such as APM or Prince 2.

Hybrid working and location. 
We believe hybrid working is the best way for our organisation to fulfil our commitment to a modern, agile workplace while continuing to provide a great service to our customers. Hybrid working means having flexibility between working in the office and at home on agreed days, where a role allows. 

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, with site visits required. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 2 days a week spent in the office. Please note, this is the minimum expectation.
