What we are looking for.
We’re looking for thoughtful, curious people who want to make a difference. You don’t need to be a specialist, or have experience in our work, just bring a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in the region.

- Creativity in presenting ideas clearly
- A willingness to learn and try new things
- Motivation and a positive attitude
- The ability to work well with others and independently
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- A passion for the West Midlands
then we’d love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds, especially those who are underrepresented in our sector: you do not need previous experience. We look forward to reading great applications from women, ethnic minorities and under-represented groups including care leavers.
- Hands-on experience working on real projects
- Insight into how regional government works
- Skills in project delivery and stakeholder engagement
- An understanding of how policy shapes people’s lives
- Valuable experience and confidence to support your next career steps

- What would you like to learn from this internship?
You will also be given the opportunity to tell us more about any prior part-time work, volunteering or any other projects and initiatives you have been involved in.
Your answers don’t need to relate to our work. Feel free to use examples from any part of your life, whether that’s school, volunteering, music, sport, gaming, or anything else that matters to you. We want to get to know you!
There are roles available in the following teams:
- Policy and Integration

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI)
We cannot stop anyone from using AI to help write application content. Used right, it can be a great tool. If you choose to use AI, then use it as a helper rather than relying on it wholly to write your application.
Applications that rely too heavily on AI may be rejected during shortlisting. For help on how to write a supporting statement, please visit the FAQs section of our careers site.
Reasonable adjustments.
If you have an accessibility need, disability, or condition that means you might require changes to the application or recruitment process, please get in touch with our Recruitment Team (careers@wmca.org.uk).
