West Midlands Road Safety Commissioner

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE WEST MIDLANDS.

West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker is committed to achieving Vision Zero - no deaths or serious injuries on our roads - by 2040, joining major city regions worldwide in this essential mission. Every life lost or affected on our roads has a profound impact on families, friends, and communities across the region. To bring this vision to life, we’re seeking a Road Safety Commissioner who will be instrumental in ensuring our road and transport systems become safer, smarter, and more inclusive for all. This new role will provide dedicated leadership to make our streets safer and give the communities of the West Midlands the peace of mind they deserve as they travel to school, work, and beyond.

  • Work collaboratively with our communities and the West Midlands Road Safety Strategic Group members and engage with senior external stakeholders to drive the region’s ambition whilst making the case for additional delivery funding and investment and powers where necessary.
  • Recognise the factors behind achieving Vision Zero can vary for different communities and those with protective characteristics and work closely with sector experts including the Race Equalities Taskforce, and other protective characteristics interest groups.
  • Promote and enable equity of opportunities for all residents, businesses, and communities of the West Midlands to improve social mobility and accessibility through the provision of safe and healthy travel choices, such as cycling and walking, and making streets safer to walk and wheel.
This role also offers the chance to grow your leadership and management skills, build strong connections with community leaders and local organisations, and make a lasting, positive impact across the West Midlands. Your contributions will be a crucial part of the Taskforce's success and will help create safer, more connected communities.
