Workplace Services Officer

As our Workplace Services Officer, you’ll lead and support across a range of workplace services, to drive delivery of a key enabling service for the WMCA (West Midlands Combined Authority) and support wider Housing, Property and Regeneration deliverables.  

You will provide vital support to the facilities and workplace services to ensure the smooth running of our Head Office, providing a great workplace experience for staff, visitors, and tenants. 

Working in collaboration with the wider team, you’ll focus on delivering modern workplace services with excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement. 

The role will also support the constant review and refresh of the requirements of corporate business continuity and disaster recovery in an agile environment. 

There will be opportunities to support wider strategic programmes and ways of working projects, ranging from improvements at Head Office, driving continuous improvements to our service as well as supporting the creation of a “one team” helpdesk and launching a new reporting system due in early March.  

The nature of this role requires the successful applicant to be office based much of the time (there will be limited hybrid working by agreement). 

This role is being offered as a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2025.

What will you be doing? 

  • Support on the key deliverables for facilities and workplace services, including delivering an effective enabling support service to drive the transformation of workplace services for WMCA staff, tenants, and visitors 
  • Lead guest experience to create an exceptional experience at Head Office 
  • Lead a front of house programme to drive standards in front of house services and to drive continuous improvement in our staff and visitor sign in and induction programme 
  • Lead administration and monitoring of the business continuity ‘on call process’ engaging with stakeholders to ensure the management of rotas and system changes 
  • Support the wider WMCA Business Continuity programme to include consistent review and development of business continuity planning and engagement with business-wide stakeholders 

About you.  

We’re looking for someone who’d like to work in a senior support role, with experience of driving improvements to service delivery.  You’ll be familiar with managing services and creating a safe, clean, and secure environment for all building users to work in. 

Essential experience of: 

  • Delivering customer service 
  • Working in an enabling service/business support/corporate support function 
  • Working effectively with stakeholders both internally and externally 

Essential Skills/Knowledge/Abilities   

  • A connector who is intellectually curious and looks ahead, seeing the joins and connections between tasks and programmes. 
  • An outstanding problem solver – doesn’t wait for others to solve problems but uses own initiative to unblock issues and create effective solutions. 
  • Team player who embraces personal responsibility – demonstrating a strong drive to deliver individually and together. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work on own initiative. 
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and similar software 
  • Motivated and determined to achieve results. 
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work independently as well as a member of a cross-functional team is essential. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, trouble-shoot, and to meet short- and long-term deadlines. 
  • A professional approach which generates credibility and confidence in others

Salary and benefits. 

We advertise salary ranges for job roles, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, where higher skill levels or experience are applicable, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate. This approach allows for potential year-on-year salary increases, offering progression and appropriate rewards to employees.

Location and working pattern – what you can expect.  

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that the successful candidate will be predominately office based due to the nature of the role. Limited hybrid working will be available by arrangement.
